Great tool, great concept! Love how this isn't just a script but also a concept. A solid example of Art+Tech working side-by-side. Love your work mate!
I bought this when I heard about it, just because I'm indebted to you for all the great, helpful work you've done on YT. Today I installed it and this is exactly what I need for type treatments. Thanks Jake!
I’ve been using a plugin called textevo for a while. I don’t think Type Jazz will completely replace it for me, but it looks very fun and very fast. I can’t wait to try it. Also, so stoked for per-character text styling.
BEST. INVESTMENT. EVER. Can't believe how easy this is to create stunning animations--be it subtle or dramatic. Seriously. Even without watching this video (though I highly recommend it), you're up and running in 5 minutes or less with a basic knowledge of After Effects. Big props, Jake! This is a banger plug-in!
Jake, this looks great. Excited to get to grips with it. One question - what happens when you hand over a file to another motion designer who doesn't have the plug in installed? Will I run into problems there, or will the keyframes transfer to be editable by someone else?
So will I finally be able to skip learning the text animators all together and stop switch between ramp up and ramp down or wondering why they use an ease high/low percentage instead of the same keyframe easing that is available through the entire rest of the app? Will this solve my back pain? Tight hip flexors? 28$ is a deal.
5 minutes in and this is looking perfect - definitely will be replacing my current horse-like plugin for easy text animation. Any plans to do a similar plugin in for objects?
I love how you showed a more serious example at around 14:00. That looks a lot more like something I'd use on a client project. I am curious about performance though. Is it compatible and how does it handle motion blur? Unfortunately some specific "Mr🐴"plugin🐴, if you know what I mean, made me a bit wary about type automation lol
Sounds like you need to find some more fun clients! 🤪 Totally kidding. Type Jazz is great for lots of different text animation types. And because it doesn't use expression selectors, motion blur doesn't add a massive render hit (any more than it would to another layer anyway).
There's definitely room to grow, but my focus was on ease of control and performance. My favorite part of Type Jazz is how instant the feedback is. The script itself is very secondary to the setup, and can almost completely be controlled within the Type Jazz effect.
@@JakeInMotion It looks quick to set up and modify, but how is the playback performance if you have heaps of layers rigged up? Is it linked via expressions?
I haven't had any issues with many layers using Type Jazz all at once. The entire promo video was animated with Type Jazz, and I had no issues with playback. And yes, it's all being driven by expressions.
Considering the amount of time and effort you need to invest to properly operate the text animator in AE...this is a good send. I don't think it will replace the more complicated things but for most people this will be just what the doctor ordered
TextEvo is a great tool, and can do some of what Type Jazz does, but in a very different way. One of the goals I had for Type Jazz was to make a rig that felt like you were using a regular text animator, but with the ability to do things that just aren't possible manually. One of my favorite things about text animators is that you can create complex animations with just 2 keyframes on the offset property. With Type Jazz, your animation will always take place between the 0%-100% Animation Progress property, which feels a lot like the standard text animator. The decay Frequency and Amplitude controls allow you to dial in the look of your oscillations or bounces without ever having to touch the keyframes, or dig into a text animator and range selector settings. It's just rigged up to work the way I believe feels most natural, and allows you to very quickly iterate on different text animations.
Is there a range selector option? Like if I only wanted it to effect the last word in a sentence, or the last few letters of a word? Or the first word? etc.
Ok so I opened it up to see how I would approach it. Unfortunately, because Type Jazz uses multiple text animators, it's a bit complicated. To eliminate all influence of Type Jazz for a specific range, you would need to add a range selector to each animator that Type Jazz generates. To make it easier to manage, add it to the first animator, then copy with property links (Edit > Copy With Property Links) and paste it to all of the other animators. The range selector Mode should be set to Subtract, the amount set to 100%, and the Smoothness set to 0%. Now adjust the Range to your desired value to restrict the influence of Type Jazz. Since you copy and pasted with property links, all of the other range selectors will follow what the original does.
Absolutely! And I'm actually in the process of making mogrts using Type Jazz. They'll be a free addition bundled with the AE script soon, as well as a separate purchase for editors who don't want/need to use AE.
How does this work with animating opacity by letter or line? Like if we want to edit the curve of the opacity reveal separate from the motion. I don't want the opacity to bounce! haha
Is it possible to apply this to a certain portion of the source text? say, I animate in a paragraph, then I want to highlight 3 words within that paragraph with a bounce scale. can I then go into the copy and select those words and apply again? Also, what does this plugin look like to someone who received my project and doesn't have the plugin?? is everything "useable" and "adjustable"?
Yes, it is possible, but not by applying Type Jazz again. You would need to add another animator that essentially negates the animation outside of the range of text you want Type Jazz to be applied to. Handing off the project file to another user is no issue. They'll have access to all of the same Type Jazz controls, just not the script panel itself.
Sometimes you don't realize how much you need something until someone comes up with it. This is one of those awesome things and I cannot wait to spend my hard earned monies on it! Thank you Jake 😭🎉
Can you add another text effect to a layer that has Type jazz on it? For example, type animates on with jazz, but then I want to sweep an emphasis color by word through the type as a separate animator/
It's definitely possible, I just focused on motion over color and the other options. The controls were already getting pretty complex but if there's enough interest I will definitely consider adding more options in a future update.
@@JakeInMotion I think it's great! My suggestion would be to integrate your presets into the ui panel itself. It would save a few clicks. What a great product, Jake!
I try with Evotext do something like u. Maybe here u have more control..but, i can do animation like u with all cotrol in evo text :) but, who not have evo, can tty this script :) u are great
TextEvo is great, but it does things very differently than Type Jazz. One goal I had was to make something that felt very much like text animators already do with fantastic responsiveness, but with much more complicated possibilities and precision controls. I think I achieved that with Type Jazz.
I've played with this and it's a good as it looks!
I'm going to credit you for the push to name it Type Jazz 🎷🎵🎹
Another absolute win. I was just complaining about how unwieldy text animators can be the other day, and lo, my prayers have been answered 🎉
Agreed! They're very powerful, but a hassle to manage. This is the tool I wish I had when I first started using After Effects for text animation.
Great tool, great concept! Love how this isn't just a script but also a concept. A solid example of Art+Tech working side-by-side. Love your work mate!

You always know how to JAZZ up my life (and animations) Thanks for being awesome Jake!
Congrats on the release Jake, another excellent tool for artists!
Thanks so much!

Thank you, Jake, this is a great plugin! No more getting lost amid multiple text animators before pulling my hair out on a deadline.
Insane! Will be purchasing soon. Absolute game changer
This is spectacular! it's like having your text animator on Essential properties but much much better!
Fun fact: you can add Type Jazz to essential properties and it even works great with Mogrts.

Congrats on putting yourself out there~! Nicely done.
thank you for always making my life easier!!!

Yes, they'll be able to pick up where you left off with no issues. They just won't have access to the script functionality.
So will I finally be able to skip learning the text animators all together and stop switch between ramp up and ramp down or wondering why they use an ease high/low percentage instead of the same keyframe easing that is available through the entire rest of the app? Yes it will.
Text animators always do my head in. It’s such a helpful tool, will be purchasing soon. Thanks! 🤩

Thank you! Not at the moment, but I like the idea.
Looks great! I've been using Animation Composer for quick text animations, but this seems to be a bit more versatile.
Really amazing Jake! I will be buying!!!
Thank you so much!
Hey Jake, I'm planning on buying this, It looks really awesome, could I ask what font did you use in the ad?
The sans serif font is called Roc Grotesk, and the Type Jazz font is called Swear.
Cool name and tool!
Awesome!

4 minutes in and I've already purchased it. Exactly what I've been looking for. Great stuff! 😀
Thank you so much!
This looks awesome!
Side note: Mind sharing the song you used at the beginning?
It's a stock track called Creamy Cheesecake by Wendy Marcini.
OMG the intro 💛👏
Interesting! In what ways would you say this might be better than Textevo 2?

awsome
Is there a range selector option? Like if I only wanted it to effect the last word in a sentence, or the last few letters of a word? Or the first word? etc.
Not natively. You could add another animator with a range selector to the rig that would remove the influence of all other animators, though.
@@JakeInMotion would I have to do anything to the expression? Or all I have to do is add another animator and select the range?
Ok so I opened it up to see how I would approach it. Unfortunately, because Type Jazz uses multiple text animators, it's a bit complicated. Absolutely! And I'm actually in the process of making mogrts using Type Jazz. They'll be a free addition bundled with the AE script soon, as well as a separate purchase for editors who don't want/need to use AE.
@@JakeInMotion That would be so amazing!!! You have the best ideas!

nice:)
Are you able to have text animate in by words and animate out by lines?
You would have to split the layer to do that. Changing that property can't be controlled with keyframes or expressions.
excitante!
Looks great Jake, just bought it. Now the only problem is that I have to manually do things for LIAE so that I’m not cheating myself 😂

Why no color control?...
would be great if you can keyframe little color changes!!!
